Mima Merrow is an Irish singer-songwriter based in Glasgow.

Her sound is a unique blend of alternative folk characterised by longing, sudden changes in direction, and melodies that ache.  Fascinated by the relationship between our environments and bodies, her thoughtful lyricism is held together by intimacy, honesty, and stories that challenge her listeners.

Mima released her debut album, Almost Home, in September 2022. It explores the idea of home; where it is, who is allowed there, the rituals and rites of passage that bring it together.

Since releasing her first single, Freckles in 2020 her music has received airplay on BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio Foyle, BBC Radio Scotland, features in Scotland on Sunday and reviews via SNACK magazine, The Skinny and The Music Files.

With support from Creative Scotland she is in the process of making her second album which will see her push her sound forward into a braver, louder realm in collaboration with a star-studded 7 piece band from the Glasgow grassroots music scene.

Mima says,

“Almost Home was a solo record which people played on. It was a lockdown record - isolated, lonely, reflective. This new one is a band record. Made by and for misfits. I’m making it in collaboration with incredible artists and it is already far more exciting, brave and honest than I could ever have made on my own.'

Recent gig goers have described the new sound as:

‘It’s beguiling singer-songwriter melodies woven through anarchic folk-horror.’

‘It’s giving witches wailing in the forest in the most complimentary way.’

‘I’d describe it as film-noir jazz sabbath.’

‘A comforting hand in the darkness guiding you through a fragrant forest littered with broken glass.’
